On July 30, 2024 at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games in judo, Tajik judoka Somon Mahmadbekov in the -81 kg weight category won a bronze medal.
In the fight for the bronze medal, he defeated Italian judoka Antonio Esposito.
This is the first medal of the Tajik Olympic team at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
With the bronze medal, Mahmadbekov was able to win an Olympic medal in judo for Tajikistan after 16 years. Earlier, in 2008, at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games, another Tajik wrestler, Rasul Bokiev, won a bronze medal.
At the Paris-2024 Summer Olympics, Tajik judoka Temur Rakhimov won a bronze medal in the +100kg weight category.
In the fight for the bronze medal Tajik athlete defeated Andy Granda from Cuba.
Temur Rakhimov started the fight in the second round, in which he defeated Erik Abramov of Germany and Uzbekistani Alisher Yusupov in the third round.
In the semifinals, he lost to Frenchman Teddy Riner.
Tajik athlete Davlat Boltayev won a bronze medal at the boxing tournament of the 28th Summer Olympics in Paris.
On August 4, the 25-year-old Tajik athlete lost 1-4 to 25-year-old Uzbek boxer Lazizbek Mullodjonov in the semifinals of the 92kg weight class.
Boltaev won his first fight on July 28 against 28-year-old Giorgi Kushitashvili of Georgia. He defeated 21-year-old Jack Marley of Ireland 4-1 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals.
Davlat Boltaev repeated Mavzuna Chorieva's achievement at the Olympics 12 years later. Chorieva was awarded a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the women's 60kg category.
The Tajik team now has three medals in the Paris Olympics. Earlier, famous Tajik judokas Somon Makhmadbekov (81kg) and Temur Rakhimov (+100kg) won bronze medals.
