The President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, participated and delivered a speech in virtual format at the preliminary conference “Global Call” for the Summit of the Future held by its coordinators - the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Namibia, as part of the preparation process for the Summit of the Future.
We remind that the “Summit of the Future” will be held on September 22-23 at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York, United States of America.
In the preliminary conference as part of the preparation process for the “Summit of the Future”, the leaders of the United States of America, Turkiye, Austria, Switzerland, Brazil, Algeria, Botswana, Peru, Moldova, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Cuba, Cyprus, Egypt, Guatemala, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Prime Ministers of Armenia, Pakistan, Canada, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Singapore, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Georgia, Greece and other UN member countries participated and spoke.
It is worth emphasizing that the necessity of convening the “Summit of the Future” is based on the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the UN in 2020. At that time, the member countries of the organization called on the Secretary-General of the UN to identify the shortcomings and problems in the system of international relations and recommend appropriate solutions.
In response to this request of the member states of the organization, the UN Secretary-General presented “Our Common Agenda” with attention to the need to strengthen the implementation process of the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” and to convene the Summit of the Future, which will be held a few days later.
It should be emphasized that the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Namibia, through their permanent missions to the UN, are preparing and coordinating the final document of the Summit of the Future, which covers the problems and threats and challenges of the modern era, including climate issues, that have central importance in the international policy of Tajikistan.
